Vocal Cord Paralysis

This study measures the ability of patients with vocal cord paralysis to raise their intra-abdominal pressure. This ability is extremely important in executing such vital functions as defecation and urination.  

Sleep Apnea

The relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease and sleep apnea will be evaluated in clinic patients. Questionnaires collecting information about GERD symptoms and sleep abnormalities will be completed by patients who are referred for evaluation of sleep apnea. Further information will be obtained from patients' sleep studies.

Non-Cardiac Chest Pain

Several studies looking at diagnostic treatment in patients with chest pain of non-cardiac origin. Patients will receive a medication to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease in order to assess the extent of improvement in symptoms by use of these medications.
